Cocoa is a tree from America that produces a fruit of the same name that can be used as an ingredient for foods among which chocolate stands out. Its use dates back to the time of the Mayans, Aztecs and Incas, more than 2,500 years ago, as a medicinal remedy or as a currency and since then it has been used for both nutritional and medical purposes.
According to the European Food Information Council, more than one hundred medicinal uses of cocoa have been developed.
The treatments that use the resources of the cacao tree serve to cure or relieve fatigue, extreme thinness, fever, heart problems, anemia or kidney and intestinal problems. It can also be used as a cosmetic to treat certain skin problems such as wrinkles, stretch marks or even hair.
